Hi everyone! Wherever you are!I still find it absolutely amazing that I can connect to so many people around the globe through my keyboard. Here I am, typing away in my PJs... I mean, incredibly glamorous dress with six-inch Manolo Blahniks... :) and there you are, wherever you might be reading this. And somehow, we're linked! The funny thing is that I feel like we're linked already. I had to give a speech the other day about Becky Bloomwood, and I found myself saying that I felt as though there was a big club, all around the world, of "people who know Becky". I said that I meet readers at events in different countries and I feel as though we already kind of know each other, because we have this mutual, crazy friend. So a big wave from me to all of you, Becky's friends, not to mention Emma's friends, Samantha's friends and Lexi's friends. I also want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has posted such lovely comments about REMEMBER ME? They really did make my day :) I also want to talk about the Shopaholic movie, which has just finished shooting, starring Isla Fisher as Becky. I haven't seen the finished film yet and am waiting as nervously and excitedly as you guys! My involvement with the movie came right at the end of the process. I hadn't been part of any of the meetings or decisions in all the years of development - the whole thing was happening miles away in Hollywood and I hardly believed it would ever really happen! But then, to my delight, I was invited to the read-through, which is when the actors all sit round the table and read the script through for the first time. It was amazing to be there, and people started asking me questions about the characters... and I ended up spending a fair amount of time on the set, more than I'd planned! The movie isn't a scene-by-scene recreation of the book. It has similar plotlines and many scenes straight from the book - but it also has differences. Of course, there's a part of me that would have loved to see my own creation put up onto the screen word-for-word with not one syllable changed... but the truth is, films are very different from books. They are interpretations. I've had to realise that this isn't my baby any more, it is something different. So this movie will be an interpretation of Becky and her stories - with what I hope and strongly believe is exactly the same spirit and comedy and fun. There were lots of amazing moments on the film set, but I think for me the most memorable moment was the very first day of shooting. Film scenes are usually shot completely out of order - but by sheer fluke, the first scene that we did was the very first scene in the book - where Becky sits at her desk and opens her Visa bill. As I watched Isla sitting at a desk, staring at her Visa bill in dismay, I felt so goosebumpy! There was the first Shopaholic scene I ever wrote, all those years ago... coming to life before my eyes! Now the filming all seems a million years ago and I'm back to my normal life - working on a new book, browsing eBay, and putting on optimistic floaty summer dresses every morning before piling six jumpers on top. (British summers only exist in catalogues, I've decided). I'll be back soon - meanwhile thanks again to everyone for your amazing support!
